Space Quest is a six month subscription line for ages 6-8. Each month’s kit includes a hands-on project inspired by real space exploration, along with a unique poster. I collaborated with Ingrid Dragotta to design this line. More info on the line can be found here.
The hands-on project for the first month is a planetarium and mini flashlight projector. Once assembled, the cardstock planetarium projects stars that can be viewed and explored by the user. The mini flashlight projector can be used to further animate and interact with the planetarium’s projected stars.
The hands-on project for the third month is a cosmic marble maze. Avoid obstacles like comets, black holes, and more, in order to dodge the perils of the interstellar void and land your spacecraft safely on the goldilocks planet at the center of the maze.
The hands-on project for the sixth month is an anti-gravity space lab. Maneuver an obstacle course with a floating ball powered by the force of your own breath. Imagine you are the ball and the physical obstacles along the wheel are challenges you might face during a mission. To make repairs outside the space station or accomplish even the simplest tasks-passing through a space station corridor, for example—astronauts must observe their surroundings, move carefully and deliberately, and navigate unusual gravity conditions.
